Company History
The legacy of beautiful landscapes continues
As Ted Collins Tree & Landscape begins counting down to the start of its second half century, the company's philosophy hasn't changed since Ted Collins first opened for business in 1957. In a day before vision and mission statements were popular, Ted and his small team spent an evening penning their vision for the fledgling company.
The business has grown in size over the last five decades, but continues to operate according to that vision laid out on Ted's kitchen table. That vision is one of people serving people. Each landscape continues to be treated as a work of art. Each design is created by a professional landscape designer. Each planting is supervised by a trained horticulturist. Lawn care and plant health care services are under the direction of Plant Health Care professionals who holds state pesticide applicator licenses, and a horticulturist supervises all landscape maintenance. Perhaps that's why a Ted Collins landscape is often one of the features listed in real estate ads.
Ted Collins Tree & Landscape has come a long way from its start on a commercial alleyway beside the Erie Canal in Pittsford. Today, that alley, Schoen Place, has become a bustling retail area, but Ted Collins Tree and Landscape had already moved to 35 acres of farm property on Route 251 in Victor.
Ted Collins has been retired for more than a decade, but he left the company in good hands -- those of Doug Ward and Greg Frank. Doug brought to the company decades of service and contracting experience; Greg has been with the company since earning his degree in landscape design and ornamental horticulture more than 25 years ago.
Whether you are a customer or not, you have access to some of the best horticultural minds in Rochester. The professionals at Ted Collins Tree & Landscape don't hide their knowledge under a bushel basket. They share it with the community. Education programs include working with the media to alert the public to important developments that affect their landscapes, appearing on television and radio to discuss lawn and garden subjects, speaking before garden clubs and other community organizations, and publishing educational material on a regular basis.
Since 1957, the area's most beautiful landscapes have been created and maintained by Ted Collins Tree & Landscape. It's a tradition that will continue into the company's second half century of service.
