 | Cornell Turfgrass Newsletter Late summer is the best time to establish Kentucky bluegrass, creeping bentgrass, tall fescue, and perennial ryegrass from seed when annual bluegrass when is not your major weed. August 15 through October 15 is our seeding window. It is best to seed as early as possible within these windows. The primary reason that late-summer seeding is preferred is that it maximizes the time for the grass to establish before it faces the heat and stress of next summer. |

Ken Estes, Jr., Landscape Designer and Consultant of Ted Collins Tree and Landscape, recently led the removal of a massive Cottonwood-Ash pair. These trees, towering at 125 feet tall, became a danger to residents of West Lake Road in Avon. Totalling 150 man-hours, the removal of the tree was no easy task. With this challenge, it was another reminder to planners that the present plan for a landscape can be appropriate, but the future has to be considered as well.

The Mendon Station Park recently underwent a renovation by Ann Hubregson, CNLP Tree and Landscape Consultant of Ted Collins Tree and Landscape. Being a resident of Mendon, Hubregson was dedicated to providing a functional and aesthetically pleasing landscape. One design aspect was to provide perimeter plantings that would enclose the park to creating a sense of place. The focal point of the design was a row of Snowdrift Crabapple trees that would outline the old railway line. With over 120 plants having been planted in Mendon Station Park, it is truly a diverse and graceful site to see.
